Summary:

Provides assistance in the planning, development, and implementation of internal and external communication activities for the Northwest Educational Service District (NWESD) under the direction of the Communications Specialist. Assists with the design and development of a wide range of electronic and printed graphic materials, photography, video, and other media. Supports the development and maintenance of integrated web sites. Ideal candidates will be energetic, inventive, hardworking, social media and web-savvy, and brimming with ideas about creative ways to engage audiences in the organization’s mission.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist the Communications Specialist in various forms of website work including, but not limited to, adding content, formatting graphics and images, and uploading videos, while adhering to best practices of ADA website compliance.
  • Assist the Communications Specialist with the coordination and production of electronic communication/marketing processes including bi-weekly e-news and daily social media.
  • Assist the Communications Specialist in the design, editing, and creation of videos, reports, brochures, publications, and other printed collateral, ensuring quality products.
  • Performs related duties as assigned. Related duties may not specifically be listed but are within the general occupational series and responsibility level typically associated with the employee’s classification of work.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Experience working in a PC operating system.
  • Proficiency in the following software programs: MS Office 365, WordPress CMS, Adobe Creative Suite products (Premiere, InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator) preferred.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of communications and marketing as obtained through formal education.
  • Knowledge of pertinent laws, rules, and regulations related to public information, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and the CAN-SPAM Act.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Flexibility and demonstrated ability to follow directions.
  • Good attitude, strong interpersonal skills and collaborative work style.

Qualifications:

Ideal candidate will be enrolled in or recently graduated from a bachelor’s degree program in communications, public relations, marketing, education or related field.  Experience and ability working independently and collaboratively in a team environment. WSP name/DOB criminal history background clearance required. Valid Washington State driver’s license and proof of liability insurance required.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Work is performed approximately 90% in an office environment or school setting and approximately 10% traveling to fulfill the essential functions of the position.  The ability to sit for extended periods of time is required.  Lifts and carries a maximum of 30 pounds. Adequate manual and finger dexterity, hearing, speech, and vision are necessary to perform the essential functions of this position.

Hazards:  Those present in a normal office environment; no known significant hazards.
