Behavioral Health Navigation

Educators recognize that youth need a level of emotional wellness to succeed as students. In an effort to support the emotional wellbeing of all students and families, the NWESD Behavioral Health Navigator (BHN) assists school districts in our region with the development and implementation of comprehensive suicide prevention and behavioral health support for students. The BHN engages in community and state partnerships and collaboration with community partners to increase access to care for students and their families.

Our BHN program offers free training, consultation, and support for school staff to identify warning signs and intervention strategies in the prevention of youth suicide.

Our services include:

  • Identification of evidence-based suicide prevention programs;
  • Suicide prevention training for regional school counselors, school psychologists, and school social workers;
  • Facilitating networks between community behavioral health agencies and school districts;
  • Training school districts to identify and support students in need of behavioral health care services;
  • Consult with school districts on access to Medicaid billing for behavioral health services; and
  • Facilitation and guidance in crisis response and recovery following a student-based crisis.
