Summary:

This position provides leadership and management of technology services for contract support of districts; including budget preparation, coordinating, organizing and assisting with supervision of Network Services Staff. May assist the Technology Services Director with development of new contract support services.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervise remote technology staff at locations, may assist in evaluating performance of remote staff.
  • Manage technology projects, and deployments for remote locations.
  • Provide IT leadership and management of contracted technical support services.
  • Participate in IT-related committee(s) and meetings as needed.
  • Demonstrates a high level of experience/knowledge in network and computer systems; to include operating systems, network equipment, email systems, and cloud environments.
  • Applies knowledge of TCP/IP, routed networks to troubleshoot network problems.
  • Listens to client concerns, identifies and resolves client technical networking problems in a calm and methodical manner.
  • Demonstrates experience/knowledge of internet/intranet applications including SMTP/POP3/IMAP and MS Exchange as well as hosted/cloud-based mail systems, DNS, HTTP servers, SNMP, ssh/telnet, and other TCP/IP applications.
  • Configures, maintains, and troubleshoots email servers and services, file/print/application servers and services, proxy servers, routers, database servers, firewalls, web servers, and internet filters.
  • Participates in an advisory capacity in planning for upgrades and services as well as in the development of goals, policies, and procedures for the future use of the data network systems with K-12 peers through regular meetings with the statewide TWG (Technical Working Group).
  • Prepares clear, informative, and timely written reports on activities as well as maintains detailed logs, and documentation related to system changes.
  • Attends and participates in technical conferences, seminars and outside user groups to keep abreast of changes in technology.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • High level of knowledge of K-12 technology functions, including the instructional use of technical data.
  • Knowledge of the instructional uses of technical data and interactive video communications infrastructure(s).
  • Knowledge of various computer operating environments, including host-based interactive systems, personal computers, and network hardware/software.
  • Knowledge of Network operating systems, Chrome, Windows, Macintosh, network electronic components and communications cabling infrastructure to support the needs of Information Systems Support Center cooperative members.
  • Knowledge of IP addressing theory and practice.
  • Ability to work with contract services district leadership teams to provide leadership in Information Technology.
  • Knowledge and skill in project management with the ability to effectively organize, prioritize, and coordinate work requests.
  • Knowledge of interactive video and TCP/IP protocols including SMTP/POP3, HTTP, DNS, DHCP, and common Internet/intranet applications.
  • Knowledge of various computer operating environments.
  • Knowledge of both Office 365 and Google Apps environments and how they are used in education.
  • Knowledge of WAN environments and digital circuits.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques used in developing scripting and batch files related to configurations of network servers and user workstations.
  • Knowledge of Cisco router configuration in a TCP/IP environment.
  • Skill in troubleshooting complex problems in the network environment in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Familiarity with the use of various network testing equipment, software and hand tools.
  • Ability to work well with others to accomplish system objectives and to operate within district policies and decision-making structures.
  • Ability to perform routine scripting tasks.
  • Ability to keep abreast of changes in interactive video and data technologies in order to recommend and apply those changes in a timely manner.
  • Ability to successfully demonstrate human relation skills and customer service using tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to accurately analyze and resolve problems under pressure.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and coordinate work requests.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written format. Prepare accurate, clear and concise reports, logs and related documentation of activities performed.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, school district staff, KOCO, WSIPC, NWRDC, OSPI and vendors.

Qualifications:

Bachelors of Science degree in a scientific discipline and three years of TCP/IP computer networking experience OR a two year technical degree in Computer Technology or related field, and five years of TCP/IP networking experience OR a high school diploma and eight years of TCP/IP networking experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Valid Washington State driver’s license required. Computer and network certification such as MCSE, CNE, Cisco CCIE, A+, etc are desirable though not required. WSP/FBI criminal history background clearance required.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Work is performed in an office environment, however, much of this time may be spent physically working at the various school district locations with a small portion of the time working at the NWESD main office. Routine travel is required to visit local school districts as well as for workshops and conferences. Sitting for extended periods of time working on at a computer terminal is common. Lifts and carries a maximum of 40 pounds. Adequate manual and finger dexterity, hearing, speech and vision are necessary to perform the essential functions of this position.

Hazards: Those present in a normal office environment. Routine travel may pose potential hazards including driving in inclement weather conditions.
