Summary:

This position serves as the primary point of contact for the NWESD with the Cascade Bicycle Club, AESD Bike Education Program Manager, and participating school districts. The Regional Bike Education Specialist leads program implementation, delivery logistics, daily programming, and supports both internal and external key partners.

Essential Functions:

  • Acts as the primary program representative within the NWESD region.
  • Recruits small to medium size school districts within the NWESD region to participate in the Bike Education Program.
  • Establishes community partners within the region and routinely collaborates and interacts with the Cascade Bicycle Club (CBC) and AESD Bike Education Program Manager.
  • Creates, manages, and monitors delivery and pickup schedules between schools and districts.
  • Implements deliverables as outlined in the CBC-NWESD contract.
  • Provides quarterly reports to the Statewide ESD-AESD Bicycle Education Project Manager and CBC.
  • Tracks and manages program funds and budgets. Supports high level budget needs in collaboration with the Assistant Superintendent of Operations.
  • Coordinates with the Statewide ESD-AESD Bicycle Education Project Manager to procure bicycles and trailers as the program scales regionally.
  • Delivers trailers, bikes, and equipment to participating schools or districts as needed.
  • Supports the Bicycle Education Administrative Coordinator in maintaining trailers and bikes which may include contracting with community partners or local bike shops.
  • Leads, trains, and supports fleet management efforts.
  • Leads the training of Physical Education (PE) Teachers on implementing the Bike Education Program.
  • Coordinates with schools and districts for volunteer support as needed.
  • Provides on-site support of PE teachers as necessary for high needs schools.
  • Oversees the replenishment of curriculum materials, such as bikes, helmets, bike locks, posters, etc.
  • Provides data for evaluation plan to support CBC or the AESD Program Manager.
  • Provides input for and supports implementation of the Earn a Bike program.

Qualifications:

AA Degree or equivalent work experience in education or related field. WSP/FBI criminal history background clearance required. Valid Washington State driver’s license and proof of liability insurance required. Preferred qualifications include experience in teaching bicycling or other healthy activities to children, multicultural education, bike maintenance skills, and experience with operating towing vehicles.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Work is performed approximately seventy-five percent (75%) in an office environment and approximately twenty-five percent (25%) traveling to districts, ESD’s, and other miscellaneous locations which can include outdoor work.  Lifts and carries a maximum of fifty (50) pounds including moving bicycles to /from storage or on/off of vehicles and trailers including during adverse weather.  May include some weekend and evening work.  Adequate manual and finger dexterity, hearing, speech, and vision are necessary to perform the essential functions of this position.  This position will be eligible for limited telecommuting.

Hazards:  Potential hazards are present based on the fact that the position requires the incumbent to drive a significant amount. Hazards may include but are not limited to traveling alone, traveling with a trailer, driving in inclement weather conditions, varied road conditions, rush hour traffic, etc.
