Summary:

The COVID Recovery and Pandemic Planning Coordinator works in partnership with the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) and the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) to provide regional support to school districts in the NWESD region to support and inform statewide and regional prevention, preparedness, response, and recovering initiatives for COVID-19 and other emerging infections and conditions of public health significance. This position will serve as a conduit for networking and communications among districts regarding COVID-19 and other conditions of public health significance.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinate with districts, School Nurse Corps, local health jurisdictions (LHI’s), Regional School Safety Centers, OSPI, DOH, and the Association of Educational Service Districts (AESD).
  • Support districts with reportingand accountability expectations to the DOH and local health jurisdictions.
  • Support proactive and reactive communications through various communications channels, in concert with state-level communications from DOH and OSPI.
  • Participate in a state-level learning collaborative to document learnings and elevate challenges and best-practices quickly.
  • Work closely with the state Department of Health (DOH) and OSPI to inform and support implementation of statewide expansion of the Learn to Return program.
  • Engage in screening testing supports with, local health jurisdictions, School Nurse Corps, and Department of Health.
  • Provide resources, models, best practices, and supports to districts for setting up screening testing programs at the district and school levels, identifying school districts willing to serve as regional models.
  • Coordinate with State and Regional School Safety Centers and the School Nurse Corps to provide support with comprehensive safe school planning.
  • Collaborate with local departments of health to support districts with contact tracing processes
  • As needed, provide support with other COVID-19 mitigation strategies or other public health issues as need arises and time allows.
  • Work closely with School Nurse Corps Administrator to provide continuity for testing coordination support and direct service to districts.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of K-12 central office interface with schools and school districts’ interface with their stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Washington State’s Learn to Return Program.
  • Knowledge of COVID-19 reporting and contact tracing requirements.
  • Interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, school district staff, vendors, board members, and the public.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of diverse constituencies.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to resolve complex problems and issues.
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions/judgments and to answer substantive questions relating to program services and then to follow through with requests, as appropriate.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and objectivity.
  • Ability to work in a systems-oriented, organized, and innovative fashion.
  • Ability to work and plan effectively with both individuals and groups.
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex school and health regulations.

  • Ability to work flexible days/hours, with the ability to travel throughout the NWESD region as necessary and appropriate.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred. Experience in logistics management and project management. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted which provides the skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. WA State driver’s license and proof of liability insurance required. WSP/FBI criminal history background clearance may be required.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Work is performed approximately 80% in an office/school environment and approximately 20% traveling within assigned geographic areas of the NWESD region to complete essential functions and position requirements. Evenings and some weekends are required. Lifts and carries a maximum of 30 pounds. Adequate manual and finger dexterity, hearing, speech and vision are necessary to perform the essential functions of this position.

Hazards:  Those present in a normal office environment.  Frequent travel may pose potential hazards including driving in inclement weather.
