This position is part Paraeducator and part Transition Support Facilitator.

The primary role of the Paraeducator is to assist students in achieving academic and behavioral goals as may be specified in student Individual Education Plans (IEP). The Paraeducator provides essential support in facilitating the overall safety and effectiveness of school operations through supervision, instructional support, behavior intervention and management, as well as operational/clerical support.

The Transition Support Facilitator works under the guidance of the school administrator or other certified staff. Their role is to support students who are leaving County- or State-run institutions and transitioning back into schools managed by local educational agencies. The focus of this position is to help these students successfully return to the K–12 school system. Additionally, the Transition Support Facilitator assists youth offenders in continuing their education through college, vocational, or technical training programs, or in finding employment, based on their skills and education levels.

Qualifications

Associate’s degree or 60 semester hours from an accredited institution of higher education; two years of experience working with high-risk and/or special education youth; valid Washington State driver’s license and proof of liability insurance; WSP/FBI criminal history background clearance; CPR/First Aid certification. Oral and written proficiency in Spanish preferred.

6 hours per day, Monday - Friday, 220 days per year

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Work is performed mainly in an office/classroom in a juvenile detention center environment Lifts and carries a maximum of 35 pounds. Transporting students may be required. Adequate manual and finger dexterity, hearing, speech, and vision are necessary to perform the essential functions of this position.

Hazards: Due to the nature of the population of the school, hazards include but are not limited to exposure to weapons, threats, verbal abuse, spitting, fighting, kicking, hitting, punching, biting, scratching, hair pulling, throwing of objects and other forms of physical aggression.

Salary Range

$35,785.20 - $40,299.60
