Position Summary
The Traffic Safety Instructor uses a variety of teaching strategies and techniques to enable students to achieve the statewide Traffic Safety Education (TSE) objectives and become knowledgeable, safe, and efficient drivers.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and teacher preparation program, with a valid Washington State teaching certificate with Traffic Safety Education endorsement or approval issued by Washington State’s Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. At least two years of experience working in an educational environment preferred. WSP/FBI criminal history background clearance required. Valid Washington State driver’s license and proof of liability insurance required. Current CPR and First Aid certification required, or be willing to obtain.

This position is considered on-call/hourly, and is expected to have about 200 hours (prorated, calendar within each fiscal year). Assigned hours are dependent upon student enrollment.
Pay range:
$46.05 per hour classroom instruction
$41.24 per hour behind-the-wheel instruction
$19.86 per student for program coordination
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Work is performed in a classroom environment and within vehicles. Adequate manual and finger dexterity, hearing, speech, and vision are necessary to perform the essential functions of this position.
Hazards: Due to the nature of classroom environments, hazards may include but are not limited to exposure to weapons, threats, verbal abuse, hitting, fighting, throwing of objects, etc. Routine travel may pose potential hazards including driving in inclement weather.
This position is not eligible for benefits.
