Summary:
The Literacy Coordinator works with school and district staff to improve the instruction of all students on campus through a job-embedded professional learning coaching model.
Essential Functions:
Duties listed are intended to provide a summary of the major duties and responsibilities of this position. Incumbent(s) may not perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional duties not listed, but within the general scope of the position.
- Provide support for classroom teachers for the purpose of coaching for effective instruction including; conferencing, co-planning and co-teaching, demonstrating lessons, and focused classroom visits.
- Assist in the analysis of data to determine instructional needs.
- Develop and deliver professional development learning opportunities and technical support for educators in the literacy content area.
- Collaborates with district/school teams as they increase their skills in data analysis, lesson design, and the collection and examination of evidence of learning.
- Coach, mentor, and work with adult learners.
- Assist with campus documentation and reports.
- Facilitate study groups based on school and district needs.
- Collaborate with teachers to provide student support including individual and assessment strategies, and small group instructional strategies.
- Assist school and district efforts in identifying school-wide instructional needs, coordinating between grade levels and/or departments based on district requests.
- Evaluate and analyze local and state assessments.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Knowledge of Common Core State Standards in ELA and of research-based instructional strategies and assessment practices that support effective instruction with emphasis in foundational reading.
- Knowledge of best practices in instructional technology and its application in the classroom.
- Knowledge of professional development/training practices appropriate to an adult audience, with the ability to develop and define effective workshops.
- Extensive knowledge on curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
- Knowledge of required WA state assessments
- Ability to maintain effective and accurate coaching records.
- Ability to organize and follow through on multiple tasks, address concerns as they arise, meet deadlines, and plan ahead to meet future needs and goals.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written format.
- Ability to analyze data and effectively communicate results.
- Ability to perform skilled technical writing for training materials, web information, workshop synopsis, syllabus, and report generation.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, school district staff and administrators, other ESD staff, workshop/conference presenters, and the public.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree is required, Significant successful experience teaching K-12 literacy required. WSP background clearance required. Valid WA State driver’s license and proof of liability insurance required.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Work is performed primarily in an office environment; however, travel is required to local school districts and for workshops, conferences, etc. Vehicle is required for transportation to various sites. Sitting for extended periods of time may be required. Lifts and carries a maximum of 40 pounds. Adequate manual and finger dexterity, hearing, speech, and vision are necessary to perform the essential functions of this position.
Hazards: Those present in a normal office environment. Routine travel may pose potential hazards including driving in inclement weather.
