Summary:

In accordance with RCW 28A.310.510, and under the direction of the School Safety and Wellness Program Manager, the Threat Assessment Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, training, and facilitating the Student Threat Assessment program. The Threat Assessment Coordinator is an integral part of the School Safety Center, which includes the Comprehensive School Safety Program and Behavioral Health Navigation Services.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide threat assessment training throughout the Northwest Educational Service District (NWESD) region, based on the statewide model.
  • Provide consultation and technical assistance to threat assessment site teams regarding threat screening, assessment procedures, threat management, and case follow-up.
  • Recruit, train, and support participants in multi-agency threat assessment advisory teams.
  • Facilitate multi-agency student threat assessment teams involving school staff, special education programs, mental health providers, law enforcement, child protective services, juvenile justice, and other youth-serving organizations.
  • Develop written reports summarizing threat assessment findings, recommendations, safety plans, intervention strategies, and follow-up action steps.
  • Assist schools and districts with safety planning, intervention development, resource coordination, and threat management practices.
  • Support the School Safety Program Manager in planning and facilitating additional training opportunities related to threat assessment and school safety topics.
  • Participate in required statewide Regional School Safety Center meetings, trainings, and other professional development activities focused on student threat assessment.
  • Prepare and maintain reports, documentation, and other written materials to support program operations and communication.
  • Collaborate with and support initiatives, training, and events coordinated through the NWESD School Safety and Wellness Center.
  • Develop partnerships and support grant opportunities to promote program sustainability and growth.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Knowledge of the statewide threat assessment model, or willingness and ability to learn the designated model.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, policies, agencies, and community resources relevant to school safety and threat assessment.
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with diverse individuals, agencies, and community partners.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively while effectively managing projects, priorities, and timelines.
  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple activities, meetings, trainings, and events simultaneously.
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, solve problems effectively, and respond positively to obstacles and constraints.

  • Knowledge of and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and database software.
  • Knowledge of adult learning strategies and skill in effectively developing and delivering trainings to adult audiences.
  • Ability to review, interpret, analyze, and communicate technical information clearly in both written and verbal formats.
  • Ability to analyze complex situations, identify key issues, and develop meaningful recommendations and conclusions.
  • Knowledge of grant processes and compliance requirements.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in related field and 5 years of experience working in education. Master’s degree in law enforcement, juvenile justice, a mental health counseling field, clinical social work, or school administration preferred. WSP/FBI criminal history background clearance required.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Work is performed primarily in an office environment; however, travel may be required for school district and other agency visits, training sessions, workshops, and other committee representation. Lifts and carries a maximum of 40 pounds. Sitting for extended periods of time may be required.  Adequate manual and finger dexterity, hearing, speech, and vision are necessary to perform the essential functions of this position.

Hazards: Potential hazards are present because the position requires the incumbent to travel. Hazards may include but are not limited to traveling alone, traveling in inclement weather conditions, varied road conditions, rush hour traffic, etc.
