- Participants can feel confident that the courses have been developed by professional, knowledgeable educators and are fully approved for Washington State clock hours.
- Courses are targeted to help both Certificated educators and Paraeducators meet state requirements.
- We are continuing to add courses to our NWESD course library to fulfill a variety of clock hour needs including STEM, Equity, and SEL specialized credit types.
- The Issues of Abuse course satisfies the OSPI Issues of Abuse requirement.
Course Dates & Completion:
You can register for any of the courses listed below, all are active courses. The course dates listed below refer only to when the course started. Course attendance is taken on an on-going basis after participants finish, often within 3-5 days, though during rush periods and holiday breaks please be aware it may take up to 2 weeks.
Once we are notified of your course completion and you have taken the course survey, your clock hours will be available to purchase in pdEnroller and recorded to your official transcript. Courses listed on your pdEnroller transcript are automatically uploaded to the state e-Certification system (provided your accounts are properly linked).

Q. Are you an approved clock hour provider? I don’t see you in the list of providers in eCert.
A. Yes, NWESD 189 is an approved clock hour provider. We are listed in e-Cert as “Educational Service District 189 – ESD 189 – Northwest Educational Service District 189.”
Q. What is Canvas? Do I need to pay for a Canvas account to take an online class through NWESD 189?
A. Canvas is a learning management system that is basically a password protected online classroom. It works on a PC and you can also add a Canvas app for phones, though it works much better to submit assignments on a PC. There are no costs associated with using Canvas. All of the ESDs in Washington pay for a license to use Canvas; it is free to you. Once you register for a course in pdEnroller, you will be given instructions on how to log onto Canvas. You will create a Canvas account that will allow you to take any online Canvas classes you see on pdEnroller. Please note, however, that our Canvas account (called WAESD) is different than any school district Canvas accounts, so you will need a Canvas account through us even if you eventually get one from a school district too.
Q. I took a class at another ESD and the registration/clock hours worked differently. Why is it different?
A. Each ESD runs the registration and clock hour process a bit differently. At NWESD 189 we do a registration fee up front (in the case of STEM Kahoot $55), and then you pay for clock hours after you complete the course (the reason is that some people take classes and don’t want the clock hours, so we split the fees). The clock hour fee listed is the total for all clock hours associated with the class, so it is $20 for the 5 STEM clock hours. For more information on Clock Hours at NWESD see our Clock Hour page.
Q. How do I get my clock hours once I complete a course?
A. Once your assignments are marked as complete in Canvas, we then input your attendance for the course into pdEnroller. After your attendance is put into pdEnroller, you should get an email inviting you to take a course survey – but sometimes those emails get blocked by school spam blockers, so if you don’t receive that then you can log into your pdEnroller account and take it from here. Just log in, go to your name in the upper right corner, go down to “Clock Hours,” and on that page is a “Queue” with any surveys waiting to be taken. You can also take the course survey before your attendance is entered. You can only purchase the clock hours once you have taken the course survey and once attendance has been recorded in both Canvas and pdEnroller, then you can then purchase the clock hours. One you purchase the clock hours they will upload to your pdEnroller transcript right away and then if your account is linked to your e-Cert account they will upload usually within 24 hours (they do an upload overnight usually) and so should appear on your e-Cert transcript the next day if your accounts are linked.
If they aren’t, here is a link for how to link your pdEnroller account to e-Cert so that your clock hours automatically upload to your e-Cert account:

Q. Can I still register for an online class that began a few months ago?
A. You can register for any of the courses listed on our website, all are active courses. The course dates listed below refer only to when the course started. Course attendance is taken on an on-going basis after participants finish, often within 3-5 days, though during rush periods and holiday breaks please be aware it may take up to 2 weeks.
Q. What is your policy on course refunds for online classes?
A. If you have not started an online course and decide that you no longer want to take it, you have two options. We can do a refund of your registration feed minus a $20 administrative fee for processing the refund. We will issue you a paper check to be mailed to your address on file in pdEnroller. In order to process the refund, we will need confirmation that the address in pdEnroller is the correct address. The other available option is to transfer you to another course. If the course registration fee is higher, you can simply pay the difference; you will not receive a refund if the registration fee is lower. This is a good option if you need other classes or clock hours. You can see the full list of our classes on our website, which also has the refund policy if you’d like to read it in full. Please note that refunds cannot be given for completed courses.
Q. Do I need a claim code to get my clock hours?
A. No, you do not need a claim code for clock hours. Some ESDs use the claim code but NWESD 189 does not use the claim code for clock hours so you can just ignore it.
Q. I clicked the button to reset my password but never got an email. Can you Update my password?
A. Yes, we can reset your password. Please send us an email. The password reset emails from Instructure/Canvas often get blocked by school computer spam blockers.

Q. I can’t enroll in Canvas
A. Below are some step-by-step instructions and a few troubleshooting tips; should these not resolve your login problems I would be happy to manually enroll you in the course if you send us an email.
Step 1: Copy and paste each URL into your browser one at a time.
Step 2: Enter your email address
Step 3: Select the ‘I am a new user button’
Step 4: Enter your First and Last Name
Step 5: Select ‘I’m not a robot’. It will ask you to do a picture verification process. This *should* then change the Enroll in Course button from gray to allow you to select it.
Step 7: Check your email for a message from Instructure Canvas.
Step 8: Click to finish the registration process.
A few troubleshooting tips:
- You may also look to see if your browser is up-to-date and supported.
- How to clear browser cache (stored copies of web pages you visit so they will load faster).
Q. I never got the survey link, how can I fill out the survey so I can get my clock hours?
A. To get to the pending clock hours, log in to pdEnroller www.pdenroller.org , then click your Name in the upper right, then Clock Hours, and that will bring you to a page with a Queue of any classes awaiting surveys/clock hours. Once you take the survey and pay for the clock hours, they will immediately record to your transcript, and then upload to E-Cert overnight as long as your pdEnroller account and E-Cert accounts are linked.
