During the month of February, the NWESD School Safety Center would like to acknowledge Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month and provide some information and resources on Teen Dating Violence.

We recommend the Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) webpage ofFast Facts: Preventing Teen Dating Violence.” Did you know that according to the CDC, one in twelve US high school students will experience physical and/or sexual dating violence. This involves behaviors such as Physical violence, sexual violence, psychological aggression, and stalking (“Fast Facts,” 2022). The CDC also offers a comprehensive list of best strategies for preventing teen dating violence.

We encourage you to take a moment to visit Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, also known as TDVAM. The loveisrespect.org website has great resources on this topic, including a view the Action Guide that provides information on this year’s TDVAM theme, Be About It. You can view a calendar of events such as Instagram lives and webinars throughout the month of February.

Love is respect also offers confidential phone, text, and live chat support and information 24/7 to young folks who have any concerns about their romantic relationships. TDVAM can be found on Instagram, Facebook, and twitter. This website is a resource that can help to engage young people and adults in meaningful conversations about healthy relationships and navigating behaviors that may be unhealthy or even abusive (Teen Dating, 2023, February).

Youth can take a quiz titled 10 Signs of an Unhealthy Relationship to empower them to engage in safer relationships. The quiz from the onelove foundation can help youth understand the signs of unhealthy relationships and why prevention is so important (10 Signs, 2023). Subscribe to the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence (NRCDV) Newsletter to keep up to date on the work being done. The NRCDV is providing information to educate those who want to advocate for prevention with the goal of ending domestic violence (2021).
