Administrative Professionals Day is April 27th!

Along with appreciating and honoring our planet for Earth Day this month, it’s also the time to share our appreciation for our administrative professionals — Administrative Professionals’ Day is Wednesday, April 27! (If you’re reading this later and missed it, not to worry; you’re encouraged to appreciate your support staff anytime!)

If you are in need of something while at school or have a question, who do you typically ask? Your school secretary!  School office support staff wear many hats and usually are ‘in the know’ about anything and everything about the school, staff, and students. They are often the first contact for students, families, and guests, and are responsible for many of the things necessary to keep things running smoothly. Whether they’re managing school records or consoling a student on a rough day, school secretaries and other administrative professionals are valuable in providing a safe, productive space for learning.

Also vital to our schools, though maybe not as familiar to students and families, are administrative professionals working at the district level. Assisting the superintendent, board of directors, and other district leaders, these individuals also provide administrative support for human resources, transportation, food services, and more. Their roles give them a broader perspective, and a unique connection to both the schools and the local community.

Administrative professionals who also serve at the regional and state levels are also vital to our education system. I get to see these folks in person at the office, and they are rockstars! At the NWESD, we have over 20 support staff tending to details and solving problems behind the scenes. These professional partners range in tenure from one week to over 30 years! Taking care of tasks and logistics allows the rest of their teams to focus on their areas of expertise. Support staff are extremely important to our educational ecosystem.

I recently heard the quote, “Behind every great small business or Fortune 500 company are organized and skilled administrative assistants.”  The same should absolutely be said for schools, school districts, and educational service districts! Take some time today to appreciate the administrative professionals you know.  Thank you for all you do!
