The Regional School Safety Centers (RSSCs) were established in 2019 through Washington State House Bill 1216 to strengthen school safety and student well-being. RSSCs help districts with comprehensive safety planning, school-based threat assessment, emergency preparedness, and behavioral health coordination. They also connect schools with community partners, law enforcement, and mental health providers. By combining prevention, intervention, and response services, RSSCs ensure schools have the resources to foster safe, supportive learning environments.

The goal of the NWESD School Safety and Wellness Center is to support student learning by creating and promoting a physically, emotionally, socially, and academically secure climate for students, staff, and visitors. This is done through the requirements RCW 28A.320.125 and the cooperative work of the NWESD and regional school districts.
