The NWESD Mental Health Professionals (MHP) work alongside students, families, and educators in schools across our region, including in Lummi Nation School.
At Lummi, we have supported 676 students and provided almost 1,200 individual service encounters since October 2023. These encounters include individual and family therapy, as well as comprehensive community support. This support often involves partnering with school staff and coordinating with doctors, social workers, probation officers, and other providers who play an important role in a student’s life.
Lummi Nation School offers a strong, multi-disciplinary network of social and emotional supports. The team includes licensed clinical social worker Charley Jones, our NWESD school-based Mental Health Professional, along with school counselors, school psychologist, and two other providers from Lummi Behavioral Health. The school also offers on-site primary healthcare, creating a supportive and accessible environment for students and families.
About MHPs
For the past 30 years, the NWESD has provided school-based Behavioral Health Services across the region. Staff in the Behavioral Health and Prevention Services (BHPS) department bring deep experience working within and across districts, schools, programs, and community organizations. BHPS offers a wide range of mental and behavioral health supports – including substance use services, mental health counseling, and suicide prevention – centered on helping students feel safe, healthy, and ready to learn.
MHPs work closely with students who may be experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, family stress, or other challenges that make school or home life difficult. MHPs provide compassionate support, individualized therapy, and connection to additional services so students have what they need to heal, grow, and thrive.
