As June draws to a close, I want to take a moment to pause and reflect.

The 2024-25 school year has come to an end. What a year it has been – full of challenges and successes, with more of each on the way.

I want to begin by sending you all congratulations on making it through another school year!  I know the amount of work you are putting in and I’m so grateful every day for the dedication you have to the students in our region.

Please take a moment to reflect on all the positives from this year — the “aha” moments with students, the progress made, the victories celebrated, and the meaningful relationships built. In challenging times, it’s essential to remember that good things are happening too. Your dedication is making a real difference in the lives of our most vulnerable community members. Thank you for improving their quality of life.

No matter what challenges lie ahead across our state or nation, our unwavering focus remains on our students — because they are what truly matters. I see the incredible work you’re doing to ensure they receive the highest quality education. You’ve met adversity with grace and stayed committed to improving the lives of the young people in your care.

As we look ahead to next year, those challenges continue to grow. I recognize the financial cuts and shifting policies that are placing added strain on your administrators, staff, and students. Your resilience in the face of these pressures does not go unnoticed.

Here at your NWESD, we are not immune to financial challenges. Like many of you, we are navigating complex decisions at an unprecedented level. Even as our staff numbers dip, our commitment to serving our districts remains steadfast. Please be assured that we will continue to meet your needs — whether that support is for your central office, your educators, or your students.

Even as we make necessary cuts, we’re also taking time to reflect on the positives of this year. We’ve continued to offer outstanding professional development opportunities for teachers and administrators across our region. We’ve maintained direct support for students who need an extra boost. And we’ve remained a source of guidance and a supportive space for professionals in every corner of the education system.

We will tackle the challenges and carry our progress into next year, continuing to build on the growth we’ve made. In the meantime, I hope you have a wonderful summer — take time to rest, recharge, and spend time with loved ones.  I truly look forward to working and walking alongside you as we move forward together into the future.
