Summary:

The Senior Network Analyst supports NWESD and school districts within the NWESD region.  The Senior Network Analyst will concentrate on the network(s), servers, systems, security, and backups, ensuring that the technology is available and meets the needs of customers.

Essential Functions:

  • Installs, configures, maintains, and troubleshoots servers and services needed to support the organization and its customers. (ie E-mail, HTTP(s) servers, file servers, terminal servers, backup systems, virtualization systems, DNS, DHCP)
  • Monitors systems and network utilization to be certain the required services are available, and to project future needs.
  • Configures, maintains, and troubleshoots network devices (ie routers, firewalls, switches, content filters, wireless equipment)
  • Secures network by controlling, monitoring, and documenting access to network servers and other resources.
  • Use scripting, configuration management, and other automation tools, to deploy and maintain network systems, servers, services, and client systems.  (Puppet, Chef, Group Policies, WPKG)
  • Monitor, maintain, and develop MySQL databases for NWESD applications and services.
  • Develop basic websites and tools using perl, python, Java or other programing languages.
  • Participates in an advisory capacity within the team in planning for upgrades and services as well as in the development of goals, policies, and procedures for the future use of the data network systems.
  • Works with clients to determine needs and concerns, identifies and implements solutions, in a calm and methodical manner.
  • Uses ticketing systems, bug trackers, wikis, and other available tools to document activities, procedures, system changes, status of systems/services.
  • Is aware and supportive of the instructional uses of technical communications infrastructure(s).
  • Serves as a mentor and resource to other network support personnel on the team.

Qualifications:

Bachelors of Science Degree in Computer Technology or related field and five years of networking experience; OR a two-year technical degree in Computer Technology or related field, and seven years of networking experience; OR a high school diploma and ten years of networking experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. WSP/FBI criminal history background clearance required.

Requires knowledge of:

  • The field of assignment sufficient to perform completely and accurately the full scope of responsibility as illustrated by example in this position description.
  • A breadth of technical knowledge and the ability to learn the ins and outs of new networking equipment and software quickly.
  • Network operating systems, Windows Server, Linux, Mac OS X
  • Network addressing theory and practice (IPv4, IPv6)
  • MySQL and database management.
  • A firm grasp of programing concepts and best practices as well as a practical experience with at least one programing language.
  • Project management principles and methodologies.
  • Various computer operating environments, including host-based interactive systems, client/server environments, personal computers, and network hardware/software.
  • WAN environments and digital circuits
  • Internet/Intranet applications such as SMTP/POP3 mail systems, HTTP WEB servers, DNS, DHCP, and other TCP/IP applications.
  • Methods and techniques used in developing complex, scripts, and batch jobs related to automate administration tasks, and configurations of network servers and user workstations.
  • IP routing, and able to configure/troubleshoot/deploy routers.

  • Communicate effectively in both oral and written format.  Prepare accurate, clear and concise reports, logs and related documentation of activities performed.

Licenses and/or Certifications:

Valid Washington State driver’s license. Computer and network certifications such as MCSE, CNE, Cisco CCIE, A+, etc. are desirable though not required.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Work is performed in an office environment. Occasional travel is required to visit local school districts as well as for workshops and conferences. Sitting for extended periods of time working on at a computer terminal is common.  Lifts and carries a maximum of 40 pounds. Adequate manual and finger dexterity, hearing, speech, and vision are necessary to perform the essential functions of this position.

Hazards:  Those present in a normal office environment.  Routine travel may pose potential hazards including driving in inclement weather conditions.
