The end of the school year is upon us. At this time of year – perhaps more than ever – we have plenty of things competing for our attention: graduation celebrations, end-of-year assessments, 22-23 planning, not to mention deciding on summer activities to refill our cups. While each is important, the seemingly-endless list of separate priorities can leave us feeling exhausted.

Can we accomplish our goals in a way that leaves us feeling effective and strengthened rather than exhausted and depleted?

Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is a framework designed to organize our district and school systems in a way that brings congruence, efficiency, and potency to our collective work. When MTSS is implemented with fidelity, this prevention-based framework ensures that schools systematically integrate academic and non-academic supports to meet the needs of the whole child. MTSS relies on team-driven leadership, building a culture of collective prevention and predictable consistency in schools and districts.

By integrating our efforts, we increase the efficiency and effectiveness of our resources to better support staff and students. We invite you to engage in a learning experience about ensuring our systems work for each and every student, from preschool through graduation.

In a partnership between the ESDs and OSPI, the Washington MTSS team has provided technical assistance and professional development to 28 school districts participating in Cohort 1 of a two-year implementation support model. This project is designed to help districts create internal capacity for ongoing implementation efforts.

We want to send our heartfelt thanks to the district leadership teams who have walked alongside us during this first year.

Their collective effort, clear vision, and commitment to improvement have set the stage for strong school-based implementation next year. Soon, we will be announcing the incoming districts set to join the work within Cohort 2.

For those seeking additional learning opportunities, we invite you to join us for MTSS Integrated Systems Virtual Conference on August 4-5, 2022

Previously known as  “MTSS Fest”, this year’s conference will be an MTSS integrated systems conference, as systems continue to get aligned and integrated.

As your school and district consider your next steps toward MTSS implementation, we invite you to get in touch with us. Whether you need a thought partner, proven resources and tools, or networking connections, our statewide MTSS scale-up team is here to help. We look forward to working alongside you.
