SPU Master of Education (MEd) – Literacy, Language, and Equity (LLE)

Become a reading specialist or literacy coach and impact learners of all ages

If you believe literacy skills are essential and literacy is the foundation of learning, this rigorous research-based program is for you. Impact learners of all ages, develop their writing, listening, and speaking skills, and become a reading specialist or literacy coach, or a better-prepared teacher of reading and writing in P–12 classrooms. This program includes Reading and ELL endorsements. It’s also excellent preparation for a doctoral degree in literacy. Develop your understanding of the processes of reading and writing needed for student success.

  • The LLE program is a 39-credit, 18-month program.  Students take 2 classes per quarter.
  • LLE is the highest ranked MEd program at SPU.
  • The primary focus of the program is the science of reading; in addition to obtaining the MEd, participants can also earn reading and ELL endorsements.
  • Participants are typically current elementary classroom teachers, secondary ELA teachers, world language teachers, and occasionally teachers in the performing arts.
  • Participants in a NWESD regional cohort will receive a 10% tuition break.
  • Classes can be held at a central location in our region, via Zoom, or a hybrid, depending on the composition and desires of the cohort. The intent is to provide maximum flexibility for participants.
  • Minimum cohort size is 5 participants.
  • September 11 2023 is the last day to register for the Fall Quarter.
