Anacortes, WA – The Anacortes School Board recently earned the 2018 Board of Distinction award from the Washington State School Directors’ Association (WSSDA) for their excellent work and commitment to both students and community. This is fifth time that Anacortes has been honored.
Thirty-four school boards statewide were named out of 295 districts. Anacortes and Mount Vernon were both recognized from Skagit County.
In their application, the board highlighted recent success in closing the achievement gap, such as the district’s summer kindergarten readiness program and elimination of certain school fees that can be a barrier to participation.
“Research shows that effective school boards have a significant impact on student learning,” said Wenzel. “We are very fortunate in Anacortes to have a board that sets high expectations for all of us, reviews data carefully to monitor progress, and provides the support we need to get results. These are volunteer board members who really go above and beyond to support our students’ learning and growth.”
“We are honored to receive this recognition from WSSDA,” said Board President Bobbilyn Hogge “This reflects the hard work and commitment of the entire district to support every student’s learning opportunities.”
