1321-P – Retirement of a Policy – Procedures

A Board-adopted policy may be retired only through the following process:

  1. Board Action

Retirement of a policy will occur only by majority vote of the Board of Directors at a properly noticed public meeting.

  1. Notice and Transparency

The meeting agenda will clearly identify the proposed retirement by policy number and title, and the action will be considered in compliance with the Open Public Meetings Act.

  1. Board Determination

Prior to retirement, the Board will determine that the policy proposed for retirement is not required by law and that retirement does not reduce or eliminate rights or protections guaranteed by statute or rule.

  1. Documentation

The retirement of a policy will be:

  • Reflected in the official minutes of the Board meeting; and
  • Noted in the NWESD 189’s policy manual, including the date of retirement.
  1. Effective Date

Unless otherwise specified by the Board, retirement of a policy will be effective immediately upon Board action.
