6810 – Energy/Waste Management
Energy
In response to escalating energy costs and limited resources, the NWESD 189 will use long-term energy management practices in an effort to decrease energy costs so efficiency is maximized. Staff will be expected to be prudent in turning off equipment and lights when not in use.
Waste Reduction and Recycling
The NWESD 189 recognizes solid-waste reduction and recycling is a necessary strategy in waste management. When practical and cost effective, the following strategies will be used:
- paper separation receptacles will be provided throughout NWESD 189 facilities;
- recycled paper will be used;
- cardboard will be stored in designated areas for recycling;
- employees will be encouraged to use ceramic mugs;
- computer printer cartridges should be recycled;
- aluminum can receptacles will be provided;
- styrofoam packing materials will be separated and recycled; and
- employee awareness of recycling and waste reduction issues will be facilitated.
