6114 – Gifts/Donations/Sponsorships
The Board recognizes that individuals and organizations may wish to contribute additional supplies, equipment, or funds to enhance or extend the instructional program. The Board will be notified of any accepted gifts, donations, or sponsorships with an estimated value of $2,000 or greater.
Gifts/Donations
Any gift to the NWESD 189 of real property can be accepted only by written Superintendent approval. Any gift to the NWESD 189 or to an individual program or department of money, materials, or equipment having a value of $500 or greater shall be subject to written Superintendent approval. As it is not cost effective to process refunds of minimal value, payments made to the NWESD in excess of the advertised fee(s), will be retained and considered a donation to support general operations as long as the excess payment does not exceed $5. In no event shall any commitment be made by a staff member or other individuals in return for any gift to the NWESD 189 or to a program or department without the Superintendent’s written authorization. The Superintendent shall not authorize gifts that are inappropriate, which carry with them unsuitable conditions or which shall obligate the NWESD 189 to future expenditures which are out of proportion to the value of the gift. All gifts shall become NWESD 189 property and shall be accepted without obligation relative to use and/or disposal.
Gifts and/or donations made to NWESD 189 and used for governmental purposes may be eligible as a tax exemption to the donor. The donor will be responsible for researching and making this determination.
Sponsorships
The Superintendent shall develop procedures under which specific program sponsorships may be accepted. Such procedures shall assure that staff secure approval prior to soliciting any sponsorship and that the sponsor’s business practice, mission, and/or community involvement is aligned with the NWESD 189 mission, vision, values, and core principles.
