3240 – Student Conduct Expectations and Reasonable Sanctions
The Board acknowledges that conduct and behavior is closely associated to learning; an effective instructional program requires a wholesome and orderly environment. The Board requires that each student referred by member districts for NWESD 189 cooperative program placement adhere to the rules of conduct and to submit to corrective action taken as a result of conduct violations. Rules that establish types of misconduct must have a real and substantial relationship to the lawful maintenance and operation of the school including, but not limited to, the preservation of the health and safety of students and employees and the preservation of an educational process which is conducive to learning.
Students are expected to:
- respect the rights, person, and property of others;
- pursue the required course of study;
- preserve the degree of order necessary for a positive climate for learning;
- comply with NWESD 189 rules and regulations; and
- submit to the authority of staff and reasonable discipline imposed by school employees and respond accordingly.
The Board also recognizes that the NWESD 189 must take reasonable steps so that students who fail to adhere to the NWESD 189’s rules and regulations and who receive discipline for such misconduct remain engaged or are effectively reengaged in their educational program.
The Superintendent will develop written rules of conduct which will carry out the intent of the Board and establish procedures necessary to implement this policy.
