NWESD 189 Board Vacancies
Absence of any Board member from four (4) consecutive regular meetings of the Board, unless excused on account of illness or otherwise authorized by resolution of the Board, will be sufficient cause for the members of the Board to declare by resolution that such Board member position is vacated.
Regardless of cause, in case of a Board vacancy, the remaining Board members will fill such vacancy by appointment. The Board will receive applications (see Form 1115 F1) from any qualified persons seeking to fill the position after suitable public notice. The Board will appoint one of the candidates to serve until the next regularly scheduled election.
The appointment will be approved, by roll call vote, by not less than five (5) members of the Board. If there exists fewer than five (5) Board members, the State Board of Education will fill by appointment sufficient vacancies so that there will be a quorum of the Board serving. Each appointed Board member will serve until his or her successor has been elected at the next election called by the secretary to the State Board of Education.
Local School District Vacancies
Ninety (90) days after a local school district director position has been vacant, the NWESD 189 Board of Directors will receive a notice of the vacancy and will take action in a timely manner to fill the vacant position.
A slate of candidates will be requested by the NWESD 189 Board of Directors from the local school district board of directors. The submission of this list will be by a majority vote of the local school district board of directors. In the event the local school district board of directors fails to forward any candidates, the NWESD 189 will advertise in the local district to solicit qualified candidates.
The NWESD 189 Board of Directors will select the new local school district board member by majority vote. The appointment will be effective only until the next odd-year local school district election.
