Menu of Best Practices and Strategies for English Language Arts
The ELA menu targets two groups: LAP students in grades K-12 and all students in grades K-4. At the heart of the menu is a focus on accelerating student ELA performance. The practices align to Washington State K-12 Learning Standards for English Language Arts (Common Core State Standards).
WA English Language Proficiency (ELP) Standards
The new ELP standards focus on the critical language, knowledge about language, and language skills present in college-and-career-ready standards. These skills are essential for English language learners (ELLs) as they work toward academic success. Look for correspondences to the practices and standards identified in the Common Core State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards.
Early Literacy Pathways
The Early Literacy Pathways was created to support educators, caregivers and families in understanding and supporting Washington children's development in literacy and beyond. This document will support and enhance the conversation of how best to support every child's future.
