NWESD Early Learning Summit 2022

The NWESD’s fifth annual preschool through 2nd grade Early Learning Summit is an opportunity for early learning providers Prek-2nd grade educators, practitioners, and those just wanting to learn more. Join us for an opportunity to engage in networking and learning that help you create spaces where all young children can Belong, Be Loved, and Be Learners!

Doors will open at 8:00 am

Join us for a fun and engaging day of in-person learning with David Matteson, Tim Andrews, NWESD Math Specialist Tina Mott, Emeritus Fellows Sarah Dahl and Jacki McBride .

Our day will be focused on early learning math, writing and literacy, Conscious Discipline techniques, and Universal Design for learning in the classroom. You will leave with an enhanced confidence, a deeper understanding of embedded instruction, and sure-fire ways to support the engagement of every child and family you serve.

Up to 7 STARS hours or 7 clock hours will be available for this opportunity.

Presenters

Tim Andrews

Tim earned his M.S. in Early Childhood Special Education from Portland State University in 2000. After graduate school, he took a position in a challenging therapeutic classroom. Then he found Early Childhood Positive Behavior Interventions and Support and it changed his teaching practice. His classroom became a peaceful place, children were learning, and families were empowered and supported. And he finally knew what to do to help these children and families.

David Matteson

David Matteson is an author and nationally recognized presenter in the field of early literacy development, especially in the area of writing. He was an integral part of the P-3 work in our area for many years. Many of his published literacy resources are still used by many schools and districts today.

Sarah Southard

Sarah has worked at the NWESD as a Student and School Success, Migrant Education Family Engagement, and Multilingual Learner Coordinator. She currently serves our region as the Early Learning and Migrant Director and BEST (Beginning Educator Support Team) Lead. Sarah also has prior experience as a 2nd grade bilingual and adult ESL teacher, preschool teacher and family preservation services therapist.

Maureen Hodge

Maureen has spent over 35 years in the early learning field. She has both taught and directed childcare programs, worked in Head Start, ECEAP, Early Head Start and ESIT. She is currently the Early Learning Coordinator for NWESD 189.

Rae Allen

Rae is a Program Specialist for Early Childhood Services at the Northwest ESD (189). Rae has over 18 years of experience in early childhood education and a unique background in education, counseling, and coordination. Rae is passionate about early childhood services, nurturing connections between families and schools, and creating inclusive classroom environments for young children with a focus on social emotional development and trauma-informed practices.

Tina Mott

As a Regional Math Coordinator, Tina has the opportunity to share the beauty and joy of mathematics with teachers, schools, and districts in northwest Washington. She believes that math is visual and interesting and that all children should experience the diversity of mathematics learning. She continues to learn how math education can be more inclusive for all learners. Tina has experience teaching middle school math and has worked as an instructional coach and as a mathematics instructional facilitator in a grant-funded program called Talent Development Secondary founded at Johns Hopkins University School of Education.

Jacki McBride

Jacki has been in the field of Early Childhood Education for 30 years, as a teacher, family support specialist, education manager, and her current role as an ECEAP coordinator and early learning coach. Jacki’s focus throughout her career has been on creating nurturing environments and trusting partnerships with families that foster positive social/emotional skill development in young children. Jacki has been implementing Conscious Discipline practices since 2000, using the practices both at work and at home. Jacki continues to learn and grow as Conscious Discipline changes to meet the current day situations educators and families face.

Sarah Dahl

Currently the Principal for Sedro-Woolley’s Virtual Learning Academy as well as the Early Learning Coordinator for the district, specifically overseeing the TK program. I have been a NWESD 189 Early Learning Fellow since the beginning of ELFs.
