Teaching & Learning Department

The Teaching and Learning Department at NWESD provides focused leadership to deliver quality, coordinated services to meet district needs in our shared goal of improving student achievement.

Accreditation
NWESD offers support and coaching for schools for schools who wish to earn school accreditation through the Association of Educational Service District process, which combines both an internal and external appraisal of school improvement planning and the activities which create and sustain the plan. Contact the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning for more information.

Classroom-Based Assessment (CBA) Cooperative
The CBA Cooperative works to develop quality MSP/HSPE-like classroom-based tasks and assessments in math and reading that could be used by teachers in the classroom.

Effective Practices Library
View the free resouces available in all areas of Teaching and Learning.  All resources can be checked out and shared.

History Consortium
The Northwest History Consortium provides teachers of U.S. History the opportunity to increase their pedagogical content knowledge.  This includes increases in content knowledge as well as methods to engage and inspire students.

Literacy
Literacy services provide leadership and specific program offerings to individuals, schools, and districts that meet the challenge of providing research-based literacy instruction to all students, in all grade levels, across all disciplines.

Math
Improving mathematics coordination within the region is one of the most vital challenges we encounter.  We work with our regional partners to build a comprehensive, coherent and collaborative system of mathematics education that is research based and standards compliant.

Dr. Robert Marzano Materials
The documents in our library represent supplemental materials for the "Getting Serious about School Reform" workshop series presented by Dr. Robert Marzano.

Paraeducator
We provide professional development to paraeducators as well as those working with special needs or ELL students and those providing 1:1 student services.  OSPI offers more information about paraeducator state guidelines.

School Improvement
The NWESD supports schools and districts engaged in a data-driven, research-based, and results-oriented system focused on the improvement of student achievement. Additionally, we provide technical assistance to schools and districts already “in improvement” which may be receiving services from the Secondary Education and School Improvement Office at OSPI.

Science
Science services support science education reform for students, teachers, schools and districts.  We provide professional development, technical assistance, content training, and access to cooperative services to supplement classroom materials.

Title 1/LAP
The Title 1/LAP Network meets quarterly to bring together the Title 1 and LAP directors from our districts with our liaison from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction.   Resources, schedules and links for the Title 1/LAP network are coming soon to the library.

TOSA Project
Teachers on Special Assignment (TOSAs) work directly with Math and Science teachers to deepen knowledge of content areas and standards, as well as building instructional best practices and increasing the use of formative assessments in the classroom.
