Frequently Asked Questions about Clock Hours
Frequently Asked Questions about Clock Hours
Can I apply for clock hours as an individual if the workshop I'm attending doesn't offer them?
No, clock hour proposals must be completed at least 15 days before the first class meeting by a representative of the entity offering the course.
I took a class that offered CEUs (Continuing Education Units) instead of CECH (Continuing Education Clock Hours). Do CEUs count the same as CECH credits?
No, they are not considered the same. However some roles, such as a few within the Educational Staff Associates (ESA) certification, may require CEUs for licensure. The rules for clock hours allow ESAs who meet all qualification criteria to use those license hours as clock hours.
Who should I contact about whether I need clock hours to renew my teaching certificate?
You should contact the Certification Specialist, noted below. They will need your certificate number, or your name and date of birth, to look up information about your certificate. See the Certification page of our website for further information.
Do I need to be fingerprinted to earn clock hours?
No, but fingerprinting is required of all individuals who have regular, unsupervised access to children, including those seeking certificates and those employed in a certified or classified position. See the Fingerprinting page on our website.
If you need additional assistance please contact one of the NWESD staff members below for more information.
