Building Bridges Between Mathematics and Science (BBBMS)
In 2007, NWESD, in partnership with WWU, Whatcom Community College, five local school districts and one private school, was awarded a Math/Science Partnership (MSP) grant from OSPI. In 2008, we added seven more school districts to the partnership, and we are in the process of recruiting more districts, schools and teachers for the 2009/10 school year. We are excited to provide support and opportunity for middle school math and science teachers to collaborate with each other to reflect on and improve their practice. Professional Development activities for teacher teams included a five-day Summer Institute in August 2009, five Saturday follow-up sessions during the 2009/10 school year, and the establishment of Professional Learning Communities in buildings to support additional middle school math and science teachers. Participants will have the option to apply for clock hours or WWU credit for professional development events.
