Special Programs and ServicesSpecial Programs and Services goal is to improve student learning to meet state and local standards by collaboratively providing quality leadership, consultation, information, coordinated programs/services, and professional development. This is accomplished through direct support, leadership and technical assistance to schools and families of students age birth to twenty-one, provision of staff development programs, representation for NWESD districts/families on regional/state committees, and the development and administration of NWESD special services cooperative programs. NWESD works with the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) to assist school districts in the provision of individualized services to meet the unique needs of children with special needs; building a consistent foundation on Response to Intervention (RTI) and Recognition and Response; creating regional support aligned with current research to increase student achievement in reading, writing, math, and behavior; and building capacity to utilize RTI in making informed instructional decisions for all students, including at-risk students and students receiving special education services.
