Science Materials CenterThe NWESD Science Materials Center was formed as a cooperative effort between NWESD, Burlington-Edison, LaConner, Mount Vernon and Lake Stevens School Districts. Additional funding provided by a two-year LASER grant helped with start-up expenses and enabled the Center to begin operation back in November 2003.
The goals of the Science Materials Center are to:
Provide the best and most cost effective science kit refurbishing services to member districts. Provide cost effective refurbishing services to districts within the NWESD service area. Assist and promote the use of inquiry based science materials in the classroom. Provide access to science kits for private schools in our communities on a rental basis during the summer and non-use periods. Please contact NW LASER Alliance Director, Joanne Johnson, for additional information about joining our cooperative. An Interlocal agreement between NWESD and the school district is required to become a part of the cooperative. The Science Materials Center (SMC) cooperative includes nine member districts. We currently support FOSS & STC kits in the Earth, Physical, and Life Science Strands.
