Data Tower
ETSC: In 1993, the Washington state legislature approved the Educational Reform Bill, which funds the state-wide ETSC program. Administered through OSPI, this program is designed to provide school districts in the state of Washington with leadership, support and training as they move forward with their technology implementations. An Educational Technology Support Center is located at each of the nine Educational Service Districts in Washington state.
K-20 Network: IT support services for NWESD region school districts geared primarily to initial connectivity issues to the state K-20 network for both interactive video and data services. Funding is a state grant that is managed by the state Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI).
K-20 Public Library Support: The contract is to provide K-20 support services to public libraries in the NWESD region who are connected to the state K-20 data network. Funding is provided by a settlement between the State Department of Information Systems (DIS) and Qwest.
Learning Resource Cooperative: The LRC provides educational resources to districts at a reduced fee. When a district or school becomes an LRC member, together we can reduce expensive database subscriptions, media material costs, and other educational fees. Our mission is to provide cooperative services to our education communities that will enhance student learning.
Network Cooperative: A cooperative of NWESD districts to provide trained IT and network support personnel to member districts. Funding is from fees levied on the member districts.
Web Services Cooperative: A cooperative of NWESD and other districts to provide worldwide web (WWW) applications and web hosting services to member districts. Funding is from fees levied on the member districts.
Agency internal technical support services: The NWESD's own technology infrastructure and systems are supported by Technology Services staff. Funding for this is derived from a fee to NWESD programs that is associated with various support categories e.g. desktop computers, laptops, personal digital assistants (PDAs), MSTS (Microsoft terminal services) connections, and infrastructure only. Fees are calculated annually based on support effort which is summarised by the agency's helpdesk system. Eric Hall, Director, Technology Services
